Current direction detection incorrect on channels 2 and 3
#1
Hello,
I have also noticed another issue with the KinCony N30 when using the current direction detection.
My N30 has three rows/modules, and all of my current clamps are installed and wired in exactly the same physical direction.
However, when I enable the current direction detection, I get inconsistent results:
  • Module 1: current direction is detected correctly and the power values are positive.
  • Module 2: the power values are negative.
  • Module 3: the power values are also negative.
This happens even though the clamps on modules 1, 2 and 3 are installed in exactly the same direction.
Without current direction detection, the measured power values are otherwise consistent.
This makes me suspect that there may be an issue with the polarity/sign handling or current direction detection in the firmware for modules 2 and 3.
Could you please check whether the current direction detection is implemented identically for all three modules?
In particular, I would like to know whether there is a firmware configuration or calibration parameter that could cause modules 2 and 3 to have their current direction inverted compared with module 1.
The expected behavior is that, with all clamps physically oriented in the same direction, the three modules should report the same sign for the same direction of current.
Thank you.

If the polarity is incorrect, you can cross-connect the CT (current transformer) wiring.

Sorry, I understand that reversing the CT wiring will invert the measurement.

However, my Energy Monitor 1, 2, and 3 are wired identically, with all the CT clamps installed in exactly the same direction. So why does EM1 report the correct polarity while EM2 and EM3 report the opposite polarity?

Could we have a parameter in the new firmware to configure the direction independently for each channel, for example by multiplying the measured value by -1 when required?

This would also make it possible to compensate for any polarity differences between the three Energy Monitor modules.

Hello,

Follow-up on the N30 polarity issue, with more measurements.

Setup: KCS firmware, "Bidirectional CT Mode" enabled. All CT clamps were installed in the same direction (same orientation for all 30 channels).

Result:
- BL0910 #1 (Energy 1, ch1-10): power is positive when consuming -> correct.
- BL0910 #2 and #3 (Energy 2 and Energy 3, all channels): power AND current are negative when consuming -> inverted.

It is always the whole chip, never individual channels. Every active channel on modules 2 and 3 reads negative under load, while every channel on module 1 reads positive.

Production test: Energy 3 ch7 carries 2x500 W PV + pool pump (pump off). This morning the line was producing (micro-inverter reported 110 W), and the N30 reported +122.7 W, i.e. the same sign as consumption on that chip. So the chip 2/3 polarity is reversed relative to chip 1.

Energy counters (kWh) keep increasing whatever the sign, so they are fine for loads, but the production/consumption direction cannot be used from KCS for modules 2 and 3.

Since the clamps are installed consistently and only chips 2 and 3 are affected, this looks like a board-level polarity issue (voltage reference or current inputs on BL0910 #2/#3), not an installation problem. Re-turning the clamps is not practical (requires cutting power to the whole house).

Could you please provide one of the following:
1. a fix in the ARM firmware that compensates the polarity of BL0910 #2 and #3, or
2. an "invert direction" setting in KCS, per module (Energy 1/2/3) or per channel.

For now I correct the sign in Home Assistant, but a fix at the source would be much better.

Thank you.
