12v irrigation solenoid getting really hot!
#1
Exclamation
Hi,

Using ESPHome and HomeAssistant.

Have hooked up a 12v irrigation solenoid (normally closed) to relay 8 but it is getting really hot even when it is off.

I have it wired and coded like this:

12v jumper cable (from the board power) to the (COM) on relay 8
GND jumper cable (from the board power) to the solenoid
(NC) to the solenoid

Code:
  - platform: gpio
    name: "relay8_solenoid back wall spinkler"
    id: relay8
    pin:
      pcf8574: pcf8574_hub_out_1
      number: 7   # relay 8
      mode: OUTPUT
      inverted: true

Thanks,

1. what hot? irrigation solenoid hot? or A8S board's relay hot?
2. what's your irrigation solenoid working current?

Hi KinCony

The valve is getting hot.

It is this one - https://www.hillsirrigation.com.au/shop/...oid-valve/
has a stamp of 7W on the top of the valve.

Have I wired it correctly?

Thanks

you can test it, connect your power supply to valve directly, without A8S board. if also hot, check with valve datasheet, is the temperature within the normal operating range.

It is normally closed solenoid. should it get hot when relay is off?

EDIT: Never mind. I had it wired wrong.

Thanks
