Pi5R8 Bundle B (CM5 Lite) Will Not Boot from microSD

I recently purchased a KinCony Pi5R8 Bundle B with the CM5004000 (CM5 4GB Lite), heatsink, and fan.

I am unable to get the CM5 to boot from microSD. I am using a SanDisk High Endurance 128GB microSD card and wrote Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) using Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.11.1. The write and verification both complete successfully.

With the microSD installed and 12V/3A power applied:
  • Red power LED remains on.
  • RUN/status LEDs illuminate briefly at startup and then turn off.
  • Fan starts.
  • No HDMI output.
  • No Ethernet link/activity lights.
  • Device does not appear on the network.
I have rewritten and verified the microSD image multiple times with the same result. The CM5 is the Lite version without eMMC, so my understanding is that booting Raspberry Pi OS from the Pi5R8 microSD slot is the correct procedure.

I also installed rpiboot on Windows and connected the Pi5R8 USB-C port to the PC. rpiboot remains at “Waiting for BCM2835/6/7/2711/2712…” and does not detect the CM5.
The five DIP switches are still in their factory positions; I have not changed them.

Is there a jumper, DIP-switch setting, or other configuration required for the Pi5R8 with a CM5 Lite to boot from microSD? If not, what would you recommend checking next?

if you want boot from SD card, make sure, the RED DIP switch "4" to ON.

It looks like I might have figured it out. DIP switch "3" was set to the ON position when I received the unit and it would never boot up properly. I decided to switch it off and finally was able to get it to boot. Is there any documentation on what each of these DIP switches do? I'm also not sure why the unit was sent to me in that state.

DIP3 is power button.

Please give me more information that that. I have no idea what that even means. Do you have a link that explains what each of the dip switches does?

In reality, this corresponds to several low-level hardware control signals of the CM5.
